Estimation of Liquid Fraction of Wet Snow by Using 2-D Video Disdrometer and S-Band Weather Radar

چکیده

Wet snow may cause significant damage to humans and property, thus, it is necessary estimate the corresponding liquid fraction (FL). Consequently, FL of wet was estimated using a novel technique; specifically, particle shape irregularity (Ir) through coordinate information obtained 2-D video disdrometer (2DVD) measurements. Moreover, possibility quantitively estimating via Ir, based on temperature (T), examined. Eight snowfall cases from 2014 2016 were observed 2DVD installed in Jincheon, South Korea, analyze dominant properties physical variables snowflakes (i.e., terminal velocity (VT), density (ρs), FL) relationships according T ranges (−4.5 < (°C) 2.5) which can occur. It clarified that volume-equivalent diameter (D)–FL D–Ir depended T, relationship existed between Ir FL. The analysis results verified Yong-In Testbed (YIT) S-band weather radar T-matrix scattering simulation. D–FL implemented simulation, indicated simulated reflectivity (ZS) highly correlated with (ZO) under all classes. These features provide basis for quantitative estimation various values.

P2.5 Observations of Snow Particle Size Distribution with 2-d Video Disdrometer and Polarimetric Radar

1. INTRODUCTION Across much of the United States, and in many parts of the world, winter precipitation can come in many forms. It can range from all-liquid rain, to partially frozen particles, and completely frozen particles such as ice pellets or snow. The results of winter precipitation, then, are highly dependent on what type of precipitation falls. If rain falls into subfreezing environment...

Rain microstructure retrievals using 2-D video disdrometer and C-band polarimetric radar

Measurements using the 2-D video disdrometer (2DVD) taken during a heavy rainfall event in Huntsville, Alabama, are analysed. The 2DVD images were processed to derive the rain microstructure parameters for each individual drop, which in turn were used as input to the T-matrix method to compute the forward and back scatter amplitudes of each drop at C-band. The polarimetric radar variables were ...

this research aims at answering the questions about translation problems and strategies applied by translators when translating cultural concepts. in order to address this issue, qualitative and quantitative study were conducted on two groups of subjects at imam reza international university of mashhad. these two groups were assigned as beginner and advanced translation students (10 students). ...

use of high-resolution x-band weather radar for areal rainfall estimation in small catchments

abstract obtaining reliable precipitation observations is important for hydrological simulations and weather forecasting. radar data can provide insight in the spatial variation of precipitation and can also detect large areas of rain and estimate rainfall rates. weather radar systems nearly always operate in s-, c- or x-band. since x-band systems require smaller antennas than those at c- or s-...

Characterization of the precipitation in southwestern part of Greece with X-band Doppler radar, 2-D video disdrometer and rain gauges

We document precipitation in the southwestern part of Greece with the National Observatory of Athens (NOA) X-band radar, NOA 2D video disdrometer and a network of rain gauges. The observations were collected between February and April 2004. Time evolution of the drop size distribution (DSD) is presented for the 9 March 2004 case where rain rate (computed on 1-min period) was measured up to 80 m...
